Time off: what a request affects, and PTO policies

See the shifts and work a request touches before you send it, and how PTO policies earn and cap time off.

The time off request form shows the shifts it affects, how many people could cover them, shifts at risk, projects with work due, and your requests this year. Your approvers see who those people are. A cover can be proposed only for a shift inside your leave dates; when the leave is approved, that person is offered the shift as a swap, and you stay on it until they accept (they must still qualify for it, and your workspace's swap approval applies).

Leave that needs no approval is approved as soon as you send it, and the same follow-up runs at once: the schedulers are told about any shift it leaves understaffed, and a proposed cover is asked straight away.

PTO policies

People who manage members set PTO policies under Settings, Time off:

  • Earned as you work, with steps by length of service, added monthly or per pay period.
  • A set number of days a year.
  • Unlimited, which is still tracked.
  • Carryover caps and expiry, a maximum balance and a waiting period.
  • Assigned to everyone, an employment type, a role or a team.
  • Manual adjustments need a reason.
Note

Navalo tracks the policies your organization defines; it is not payroll or legal advice.

Note

This appears where your workspace has the new organization tools switched on. Where they are off, everything works as it did before and these screens do not show.
