Two kinds of project: outcome and standing
A project either works toward outcomes and closes, or is kept by a team with no end.
| Kind | What it is |
|---|---|
| Outcome project | Works toward one or more outcomes. Its target date is the project's due date, and it closes when its outcomes are met or abandoned. A close is proposed, never automatic. |
| Standing project | Kept by a team or division with no end. Strategy shows the share of its open tasks under milestones linked to each outcome. |
Setting the kind
- From a goal page, Set purpose on a linked project.
- Or Plan the work: make an outcome project, a program of outcome projects, or route a milestone and its tasks into a standing project. Navalo suggests one from the goal's words and asks when it is unsure.
When a goal changes
When a goal is re-targeted, re-worded or archived, the projects serving it get a proposed update on the goal page and the Strategy Overview: Apply or Dismiss. Nothing changes until somebody who can edit the project presses Apply.
Note
This applies where your workspace has the latest organization tools switched on. Where they are off, everything works as it did before.
