Set the order of tasks, and read a task's place in the network

From a task, say which tasks come before it and after it, then see its earliest and latest dates, its slack and whether it is on the critical path.

This applies where your workspace has the Timeline's Network view. Where it does not, tasks work as they did before.

Before and after

  • Open a task and choose the Network tab. Comes before this task lists the work that must finish first, in finishing order; Comes after this task lists the work that waits for it, in starting order.
  • Press Add a task before or Add a task after and search by title. Tasks on this project come first; tasks on other projects you can edit come next.
  • These are the same links the Timeline's Network view and the Dependencies list draw. Navalo refuses a link that would make a loop or that already exists.
  • Setting the order of tasks comes with the Team plan.

The numbers

  • ES (earliest start), EF (earliest finish), LS (latest start) and LF (latest finish) are worked out from the whole project's network, counting your workspace's working days.
  • Slack is how many working days the task can slip before the project's finish moves. A task with no slack is on the critical path and is marked Critical.
  • Finished work counts as zero days for the tasks after it.
  • A small view shows what comes before and after at a glance. Press a task to open it.

Tasks you cannot see

A linked task on a project you cannot open is counted ("1 linked task you can't see"), never named.

The lock

If a project uses Lock tasks until their predecessors are done, the links you set here hold a task in the first column exactly as links set anywhere else do.
